It’s most famous for starring Toro Inoue, also known as the Sony Cat, who wishes to become human. At the end of the short side-path to the Multi-Tap, you’ll spot a Bot with a flashlight stalked by a Bot in a straw hat. This references 2003’s Siren on PS3, developed by SCE Japan Studio. In 2016, Siren was ported to the PlayStation 4 with added Trophy support. During the side-path to the PSone LCD Monitor, you’ll find a Bot in samurai attire next to a tree. This refers to Jin Sakai and the tree in his childhood home, as seen in 2020’s Ghost of Tsushima on PS4, developed by Sucker Punch.
Astro’s Playroom is a free platforming game, included as a pack-in with the PS5. It’s inspired by the characters and concepts first introduced in The Playroom and The Playroom VR, which culminated in the full-blown Astro Bot Rescue Mission for PlayStation VR. The game serves as a showcase for the DualSense controller’s features and functionality. We awarded the game a 9/10 in our Astro’s Playroom PS5 review, describing it as a “love letter to PlayStation”. Astro Bot is a 2024 platform game developed by Team Asobi and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 5 to coincide with PlayStation’s 30th anniversary.
Rumored Playstation Showcase May See Return Of Beloved Sony Hero
So, before hopping into Cooling Springs, there’s a small pool for Astro to splash around in, or ahead of SSD Speedway, I can stomp around the mechanical mesh platforms that will blanket the upcoming levels. They’re the most subtle uses of the DualSense, but it’s a nice way to set the scene. Astro’s Playroom is a 2020 platform game developed by Japan Studio‘s Team Asobi division and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 5.
The controller would be dropped in favour of the more familiar DualShock design. Throughout Astro’s Playroom, notably the Labo area and SSD Speedway, you’ll find boxes of Data with 8MB printed on them. This references the PlayStation 2 Memory Card, which had a capacity of 8 Megabytes. Along the top edge of the ceiling in the Labo area are architectural elements that are from the PSone, the slim version of the original PlayStation. The two blank slots reference the Memory Card ports, which have flaps on them. On one of the monitors in the Labo area is an image of a CD-ROM and a DVD.
I finished all 16 of the main levels, the final area, and completed each of the speed run trials in around three hours. That’s not very much content — but I still have well over half of the game’s collectibles left to discover, which could easily double the amount of time spent if I wanted to go for the platinum. I used this example last time and I like to explain that with how precise the haptics are here I can actually tell the difference between when Astro walks on wood, metal, glass, and so on.
These portions are also pretty forgiving, with generous checkpoints and obstacles that provide just enough resistance to make you pause a moment, but not so much that you get stuck. Plus, nổ hũ gg88 to get too mad with the game’s infectiously upbeat soundtrack going in the background. A number of special bots were added to Astro’s Playroom in the months leading up to the release of Astro Bot.
It’s a wonderful celebration of PlayStation’s history but the absolute best moment is the final boss battle which is so perfectly handled we almost died of nostalgia playing it. Past games are also celebrated in fine style thanks to the little skits that are always going on in the background, often involving other bots playing the role of famous game characters. You also find a monkey suit for climbing and a fun nod to Marble Madness that must have been suggested by, or intended as homage to, PlayStation 5 architect Mark Cerny who created the original game.

In the PlayStation Labo area are two Bots in VR with a third listening to music, with two microphones behind him. The mics reference 2004’s Singstar for the PS2, developed by London Studio. Singstar was a very popular franchise on the PS2, and came packed with blue and red microphones, as referenced in the Labo area. In the PlayStation Labo area is a Bot sadly trying to make sense of a pile of shapes. This is referencing PS4 launch title Knack, released in 2013 and developed by SCE Japan Studio.
I’ve been playing on PlayStation for pretty much as long as they’ve been around and seeing every single one of these things kept a smile on my face while I was playing. Trust me when I say you should go into this game seeing as little about it as possible. Add-On Trophies in Astro Playroom provide extra challenges beyond the main game. These include trophies for rescuing special bots like the Selen bot from Returnal and the Ape Escape bot. Each requires specific actions‚ such as solving riddles or interacting with the environment.

The song “I Am Astro Bot [Playroom Remix],” which repeats the title and plays on the opening menu, is enough to make it a catchy earworm. While it’s not the game’s fault, it makes every exclusive PS5 game feel like it lacks DualSense exclusivity.
